I’ve spent 33 years thinking that I have problems.

Lately, I’ve come to realize that it’s not me with the problems. It is YOU, with the problems.

If this were The Matrix, I’d be siding with Agent Smith right now.

Humankind, at least MOST of humankind, has proven that we simply cannot live harmoniously.
Now before you take offense – understand that ‘living harmoniously’ is a 2-way street.

To live harmoniously, you have to be excessively considerate of others – possibly to the point of throttling your self expression and your personality (assuming you actually HAVE either one and aren’t simply putting on an act of which you’re attempting to represent). This means you are aware of other people at all times. This is incredibly hard to do. At a higher logical level, small actions you take now can result in incredible misfortunes for others. As cliche as it sounds, the banana peel you drop without a care can cause Mother Theresa to slip as she carries a dozen orphaned ethiopians down a flight of stairs.

One must truly be a creature of Zen to get through life without accidently stepping on someone elses toes or mistakenly fucking up someones plans.

On the flip side, no one is perfect. This MUST be accepted as understood as a condition, not simply an excuse or a means of judging people. Everyone screws up. Everyone forgets to use their turn signal every now and again. Just because their LAZY INCONSIDERATE ASS left their shopping cart right in the middle of the god-damned busiest aisle in the store doesn’t mean its a habit of theirs. Does it warrant a little bumping of carts and a semi-hostile and sarcastic “Excuse ME” as I force my way through? Absolutely. Does it warrant them getting punched in the face and having their full cart full of groceries dumped on their unconscious bleeding body? Probably not. And logically, I’m using the word “Probably” because I cannot judge their constant habits based on a single occurrence

Logic is funny that way. Well, to me it is because I actually understand it and do my best to use it on a regular basis.

A single ‘asshole’ action doesn’t make one a true asshole. There isn’t anyone who has gotten through life without stepping on the toes of another – knowingly or unknowingly.

I didn’t really know what logic was until a few years ago. Prior to that, I really thought logic was just a given. A mere use of ‘if this, than that’ or if(this){that}.
I firmly believe this error is INCREDIBLY common. People throw the word ‘logic’ and ‘logical’ around all the time and very rarely is the argument in question ACTUALLY logical. This use of illogic is another fault, another cancer of non-harmonious society. This illogic is the root of racism, sexism, stereotypes, and pretty much every business decision i’ve witnessed.

Wrapping up.
These 3 things will be better for society:
1. be considerate of others, not just people in your immediate surroundings – ALL others. This means generations in the future.
2. don’t judge people so fast. everyone makes mistakes.
3. take an introduction to logic class. use the basics for making better decisions in life.

If you find a way to point out other’s illogic without being rude – please tell me.

If you’re shy, you can explain your shyness. You can tell your closest friends, family, coworkers that you’re shy. THATS why you don’t go to the holiday party. Easy.

But communication problems, how do you explain to your boss that you’re having issues? “I have communication problems”

“Really? Like what, explain them to me”

“….uhhhhh….well…errrr…i dunno, nevermind”

Total fail.

It is up to ME to find a fix, to find an outlet. I am the only one capable of finding a method of expressing myself that doesn’t get affected by the above problems. That’s why this blog is *mostly* private. I rarely tell anyone – but when I do, it’s usually due to a milestone in my personality and communication recovery. If you’re reading this, it means you’re spying on me – or you’ve been notified and brought into the circle of trust at one point or another. Congrats.

However, sometimes I want to share with a few, or given an opportunity for another human to peak into my emotional typhoon. If you’ve had that luxury, congratulations (or possibly, I’m Sorry).

WTF was that!?! Oh crap, the guys with the fart pipe motorcycles and muscle cars realized that its warm enough for them to go cruise around town and annoy the hell out of everyone.

Look, its not that i hate you for being an obnoxious inconsiderate asshole, well ok, maybe a little bit. I hate you for your idiotic excuses and failed logic.

Telling me that loud pipes save lifes makes you look even more idiotic than that little black cereal bowl helmet and the leather chaps. (ok ok, i think leather chaps are pretty cool, as long as you’re wearing pants underneath them)

Seriously. If YOU need to be loud so other people can see/hear you and not run you over, something is not aligned. Here’s how logic works. You break it down to the root problem, which in this case, is ‘some drivers aren’t observant enough to see motorcycles’

That’s the problem. It can’t be phrased as “people don’t see us” or “we’re invisible” because its simply not true. It would be like me hating EVERYONE with a loud fart-pipe bike simply because a few idiots own them and annoy me. I understand that you’re not ALL idiots – please understand that not EVERYONE who decides to drive a normal car lacks the ability to see you in their mirrors without and audible aid.

Now lets find a solution to the problem. Hmm, well, if there are drivers who aren’t observant enough to see motorcycles, maybe we should take them off the road. That statement is left ambiguous on purpose. Do we remove the people who aren’t observant enough to see motorcycles? Or do we remove the motorcycles? Neither really seems like a practical solution. Lets explore further.

Oooh, here’s one. Lets *modify* bikers’ prescense to make them more noticable! Flashy colors and lights are always good. How about bikers have to wear rainbow tights that glow in the dark or under UV light. Topped with a bright pink helmet with a built in white strobe like school buses have! That will surely work!

Why NOT make the pipes loud and throaty? Well here’s the deal. For starters. Its illegal for normal cars and trucks to go unmuffled. I’ve been pulled over for being unmuffled in a car, and that car was SOOOO much quieter than the average harley. It’s illegal for people to have their stereos too loud – its dangerous for the driver (makes it so they can’t hear horns and sirens) AND it noise pollutes (annoys the hell out of people trying to relax in their homes). WHY IN THE HELL IS IT OK for motorcycles to be so ridiculously loud?

What comes after ‘for starters’? This. Noise doesn’t make people aware of you until you’ve already passed them. Do people claiming that loud pipes save lives ever ride in a real car? You don’t hear bikes unless:
a) they’re right next to you. If you need to make them aware of this, there’s a problem. See above statements about observant drivers.
b) they’ve just passed you. This is when they’re loudest. Thanks. I’m aware that you’ve passed me and are shitting black smelly exhaust in my face as well as 120 decibals of ass thunder into my ears.
c) when they go by in the other direction. “Hey Billy, hear that bike go by in the other lane? I wonder if they’re going where we just came from!?” BFD – is this awareness needed? Maybe if we were coming from hoover dam, but hoover dam is closed for some odd reason. We could turn around and catch you and notify you that the dam is closed today. No.
d) when we’re in our homes, enjoying the quiet evening air. bikes ruin it by being as loud as possible from every single stop light that they stop at. Yes. I’m aware that its a nice night already. I don’t need to be reminded, I’ll just close my windows and pretend that its still winter

Wait, let me clarify that. Recently one or two half-way known SEOs have made their whiney one sided arguments public, and dozens of amateur SEOs have jumped on the bandwagon.

The nofollow tag was ORIGINALLY created and put to use as a means for fighting spam. Ok, lets go back one step further -> The google algorithm factors link popularity into its ranking system. The more links you have pointing to your site (in theory), the more popular your site is. The more popular your site is, the higher it will rank in the SERPS. Black hat SEOs (and even desperate white hat SEOs) would spam the living shit out of every single blog they’d find. Worthless comments like “Great site. Check out my site” with a link to buyviagraonlineandgetscammed.com. Blogs everywhere fought off the spam, it was (and still is) a pain in most bloggers’ asses.

So google told bloggers to convert all the comment links to rel=’nofollow’. When the google crawler finds these types of links, it basically ignores them. If it DOES decide to follow the link, it won’t pass any pagerank – therefore making the spamming links for SEO purposes worthless.

It didn’t REALLY stop the problem of comment spam on blogs though. I mean, it helped…but it didn’t solve it.  What it DID do, was give SEOs a new tool. SEOs now use the nofollow as a means of controlling their OWN linkjuice and how their own sites pagerank is distributed amongst all their pages.

Now most SEOs are on twitter. If they’re not, they should be. Ignoring these giant strides in social media would be a truly tragic thing for an SEOs career. So here we are. Modern SEOs tweeting and being social. We’re not spamming, we’re helping people. We’re making connections 90% of the time and marketing ourselves or our websites 10% of the time. But whats this!? The link i posted to my site has the rel=’nofollow’ attribute. My site isn’t getting ANY benefit (other than traffic) from twitter. But but but…i’m not a spammer – you can trust me. I have 7000 followers and 4000 updates. I should be getting some link juice from twitter on this!!

Sorry to piss in your cheerios folks, but if/when google moves more towards a social popularity and branding algorithm (and i’ll bet my left nut that they will), links will be a low priority optimization factor. The task of SEO will be onsite for content and structure, and offsite for branding and word of mouth. Sure links will still count for something, but i don’t think random links on blogs will do any good anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, I SEE that twitter is a tank of pagerank just itching to split open and dump its link juice all over you and your sites, washing each one and fertilizing the soil it grows in with exponential targeted and relevant search growth. Yeah, we all know its there.

But what would REALLY happen if twitter lifted the nofollow? Twitter is still in that early adopter stage. The number of spammers and marketers are still relatively low when you compare the ratios with the overall internets. Ditch that nofollow and the gates are back open for those spammers and black hats. Tweetland would be plagued and shitty before it got its chance to really shine (and figure out how to make money…hey, there’s an idea – if you’re trustworthy AND you pay, you get a little linkjuice?).

In my opinion, twitter should keep the nofollow. Branding yourself and your site on twitter will help – its a new arena. If google wants to factor twitter data in (and you KNOW they will), they’ll factor it with or without the nofollow. Why open those gates for nothing?
